C.A.T are committed to helping designers, specifiers, contractors and end users to ensure inclusive accessibility to their buildings within the scope of the UK building regulations and the range of products we manufacture –
Approved document part M of the UK building regulations sets out the requirements for access to and the use of buildings. C.A.T products can assist specifiers to achieve compliance with DDA guidelines and part M of the building regulations –
We manufacture aluminum and brass stair nosings, for internal use, which will clearly identify the edge of a step as well as prevent early wear of flooring materials fitted to stairs –
C.A.T also have Olympic nosings for external steps, Olympic Studs to form tactile paving, for indicating approaching hazards, both internal and external –
The regulations state that stair nosings be of a permanent contrasting material 55mm wide on both the tread and riser but in practice it has been accepted that it may not be appropriate in every case, depending on the dimensions of tread and riser of the stair-case –
Where contrast is specified it is measured using the light reflectance scale, where LRV 0 is black, no light reflected, to LRV100, white, all light reflected. contrast is deemed to be a minimum of 30 points between the LRV of the nosing to the flooring finish fitted to the stairs –
